The XXIV Pažaislis Music Festival invites everyone who appreciates the academic music to visit the Kaunas State Philharmonic Hall on June 9. Here, a team of performers, conducted by Constantine Orbelian, will perform an impressive work, Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem, created 145 years ago in memory of the Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni. This work, which varies between the genres of opera and liturgical music, has been extremely popular since its first performance and, alongside the prominent Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, is one of the most frequently performed works of its kind.
G. Vendi’s Requiem, full of concentration and reflection, will be performed by the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Constantine Orbelian, and the most prominent soloists of the Armenian opera: soprano Karina Flores, mezzo-soprano Eleni Matos, tenor Hovhannes Ayvazyan and bass Hayk Tigranyan. All of these singers have gained international recognition, and their voices are heard in the world’s most famous opera houses.
